Let's Talk About Feelings...

There are 5 basic emotions; they can (and will) affect your decision-making skills. Here’s how:

Fear: Fear triggers a “fight or flight” response. It can mask itself as anger and in those cases, try to take a step back and ask yourself — what is scaring me? What do I need help understanding?

Flight often causes people to flee from an issue. Sometimes home buyers or sellers will neglect to make a decision so that a decision is “made for them.” Don’t be that person who sits out the whole dance. Make decisions even when it is tough, you will thank yourself later. Trust yourself.

Sadness: Look out for feelings of sorrow… It can cause you to settle for less than you deserve or maybe even worse — settle for someone else’s idea of happiness. You are the beholder of your own happiness! You might not find your “dream house,” but look out for features that spark joy and make those features a priority.

Disgust: Disgust can cause you to eliminate choices that otherwise might have been in the running. You might find the perfect floorplan, style, or location, but if the home has a bad odor, a filthy floor, or some other off-putting defect, you might not be able to stomach it, even if it is a completely reversible problem.

Surprise: Surprise is an emotion that is fleeting– it happens quickly and then subsides. For example, you are touring a beautiful home and see a Palmetto bug on the lanai!!! That would be a negative surprise. While surprise doesn’t last, the memory does, and it can influence how you feel about the event.

Happiness: People also tend to spend more money than they planned when super excited. Don’t let this happen to you. I’m looking at you homeowners prepping to sell and you buyers shopping New Construction!!
